Healthcare Cleaning Services for Hospitals and Clinics
Cleaning and security on a hospital site often means two contractors, two vetting checks and two numbers to call. We run both under one account, screened to one standard, with 24-hour control centre support.
Free, no-obligation quote.
Healthcare Cleaning Services
Hospital and clinic cleaning backed by BICSc accreditation
Our healthcare cleaning services cover NHS and private hospitals, clinics, GP surgeries and medical centres across the UK. Trading since 1998, Double Check Security Group screens every cleaner to BS 7858 and holds British Institute of Cleaning Science (BICSc) accreditation.
On larger sites, SIA-licensed security officers can work alongside our cleaners under one account.

What the NHS 2025 cleanliness standards mean for your site
The National Standards of Healthcare Cleanliness 2025, published by NHS England, set how every NHS trust setting is cleaned, audited and scored.
Each area sits in one of six functional risk (FR) categories. So your cleaning hours should follow the risk of each room, with the most time in the busiest clinical areas.
- FR198%
- FR295%
- FR390%
- FR485%
- FR580%
- FR675%
FR1 target for theatres and intensive care, audited weekly
FR6 target for offices, audited yearly
The standards also set how fast a fault is put right.
That takes cleaners on shift when the fault happens, so our cleaning hours are set around your site, nights and weekends included.
- 20 minutes
- To assess a patient safety or infection risk, then fix it within an hour
- 2 hours
- To put right any other fault in a theatre or intensive care unit
On NHS sites, our teams work to the trust's own cleaning policy, which every trust must keep in line with the 2025 standards. Your infection prevention and control (IPC) team sets the rules, and our supervisors check that every shift follows them.
What the Contract Covers
What's included in medical centre cleaning services?
Medical centre cleaning covers every room patients and staff use: consulting and treatment rooms, waiting areas, receptions, washrooms, staff rooms and offices. Touchpoints such as door handles, light switches and taps are cleaned more often, because hands are a major route for germs to spread.
- Consulting and treatment rooms
- Waiting areas
- Receptions
- Washrooms
- Staff rooms
- Offices
Hospital wards, outpatient areas and public spaces
For NHS and private hospitals, our medical facility cleaning services cover wards, outpatient departments, treatment rooms, entrances and waiting areas.
Daily full, spot and touchpoint cleans run through the day, with periodic work such as high-level dusting and floor care planned across the year.
Reactive cleans for spills and incidents sit in the same contract, so one call brings a trained cleaner.
Medical clinic cleaning services for practices and centres
GP surgeries, private clinics, dental practices and medical centres need the same care in a smaller space.
Our medical office cleaning service covers consulting rooms, receptions and admin areas, before the first patient or after the last.
Your practice manager gets one contact for every cleaning request.
Cleaning and Security
Cleaning and SIA-licensed security on one hospital site
One screening standard for everyone who holds a key to your site.
Our hospital and healthcare cleaning services can run alongside security officers licensed by the Security Industry Authority (SIA), on one account and with one manager for both teams.
Screening both teams to BS 7858 means everyone with that access has passed the same checks.
Our SIA Approved Contractor Scheme status covers security guarding and door supervision, and is held by Double Check Security Group Ltd trading as T-Class UK.
BS 7858 screening is a condition of that status, so outside assessors check it, and our cleaners are screened to the same standard.
- One account
- One manager for both teams
- BS 7858 for both teams
-
A 24-hour control centre behind both teams
Both teams are backed by our 24-hour control centre, staffed 365 days a year.

Deciding whether to bundle the two
If you are deciding whether to bundle cleaning and security, our guide sets out what changes for your site.
No obligation. We come to you and walk the site with your facilities team.
Vetting and Ward Access
Every healthcare cleaner screened to the BS 7858 standard
BS 7858 is the British Standard for screening people who work in secure environments, so everyone with access to your wards has passed a named, checkable set of checks.
Low staff turnover keeps the same vetted faces on your site, so your ward teams know who is cleaning.
Training shows up in your audits
Efficacy audits under the 2025 standards watch cleaning as it happens, in every patient-facing area at least once a year. Each audit checks:
- Colour coding
- Cleaning method
- Uniform
- PPE
Our cleaners are trained in infection control, PPE and COSHH, the rules for using cleaning chemicals safely, and every team gets site-specific training before go-live.
Site audits and attendance logs on every contract
Supervisors run regular site audits, and a monitored attendance system logs every shift.
Holiday and sickness cover from people already screened
With over 150 trained cleaners, holiday and sickness cover comes from people we have already screened.
Outside assessors check our quality and safety systems
ISO 9001 quality certification and SafeContractor approval mean outside assessors check our quality and safety systems.
Four steps from site survey to your first shift
A hospital cleaning service starts with a walk round your site and ends with a written plan your auditors can check. Smaller clinics follow the same steps on a shorter timescale.
-
Site survey
An operations manager walks your site with your facilities team, noting each area's risk category, opening hours and access.
-
Written proposal
You receive a proposal setting out scope, frequencies and cleaning responsibilities for each area. Our guide to how a cleaning schedule is agreed with your provider shows what goes into it.
-
Handover
If you are switching provider, we manage the handover, including any staff who move across under TUPE, the rules that transfer cleaners with the contract.
-
First shift and reporting
Supervisor audits and attendance logs start on day one, and your account manager reviews the results with you.
The Accreditations Buyers Check
BICSc, ISO 9001 and SafeContractor Sit Behind the Cleaning Operation
Three accreditations sit behind the cleaning operation. The SIA Approved Contractor Scheme is held on the security side, so it is not a cleaning accreditation and is not presented as one.
Why BICSc is the one buyers ask for by name
It is the training and standards body named in tender documents, so holding it keeps you eligible for contracts that specify it.

What It Costs
Healthcare cleaning quotes built from your own room list
A healthcare cleaning contract is priced on the hours your site needs, and most of those hours come from how many rooms sit in each risk category.

Excluding VAT
What sets the hours Rooms in each risk category, then your opening hours.
- Rooms in each risk category. A site with theatres and wards needs more cleaning time per room than an outpatient clinic or an admin block.
- Opening hours. Night, weekend and 24-hour cover cost more to staff than a weekday evening clean.
What sits in the same quote Reactive cover, consumables and security officers.
Reactive cover, consumables and security officers are priced into the same quote.
Our checklist for soft facilities management contracts shows what to settle before you sign.
Your quote follows the site survey, and every price is quoted excluding VAT.
That way the price matches the cleaning your risk profile needs.
Switching Provider
Changing Cleaners Without Losing a Single Night
Switching provider is a scheduling exercise, not a gap in service.

01 Check your notice period
UK cleaning agreements commonly run anywhere from twelve months to five years with thirty to ninety day notice, and buyers are routinely advised to check whether the supplier can give notice faster than the client can.
Ask for both figures in writing before comparing two quotes, because a low monthly fee on a five year term is a different product to the same fee on twelve months. Term and notice are stated in the proposal here rather than buried in terms and conditions.
- Contract length
- Notice period
- Whose notice is shorter
-
02 TUPE transfer
Where your existing cleaners are employed on the current contract, TUPE usually applies, which means their employment transfers rather than ending.
Those staff are re-vetted, retrained on the new specification and brought onto the same terms as the rest of the workforce, so the building keeps people who already know it. If the mechanics help, here is who employs the cleaners after a handover.
-
03 Managed handover
A managed handover runs four to six weeks from decision to first clean, which makes the notice period on your current agreement the first thing worth checking.
-
04 The proposal states four things
Nothing is quoted as a single monthly figure with no working behind it.
- The areas covered
- The frequency and hours for each
- The price broken down by area
- The mobilisation date

How UK-wide cover works
Wherever the building sits, we can put a vetted, directly employed team on site, supervised and covered when someone is off sick.
Not sure whether we cover your building's location? Get in touch. We can confirm cover for your city or region before you book.
Site surveys are free, with no obligation to proceed.

How to choose a compliant medical cleaning company
Look for a healthcare cleaning company that names its screening standard, holds accredited training and runs supervision you can see on site. We screen every cleaner to BS 7858, hold BICSc accreditation, and run supervisor audits and attendance logs on every contract. You can check all three at the site survey.
What do the cleaning colour codes mean in a hospital?
Hospitals use the national colour-coding scheme: red for washrooms and toilets, blue for general areas and wards, green for kitchens and food areas, and yellow for isolation areas. Cloths, mops, buckets and gloves stay with their colour, which cuts the risk of germs moving from a toilet to a ward. The 2025 standards also require cleaning staff to be kept informed of patients who need isolation cleaning.
What is the difference between cleaning and disinfection?
Cleaning removes dirt and organic matter with detergent, water and friction, and disinfection then reduces the germs left behind. The order matters, because some disinfectants stop working when organic matter is present. Clinical cleaning services build both steps into each area's method, and every disinfectant stays wet for its full contact time.
Do you clean at night and outside clinic hours?
Yes. Our cleaning hours run 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Clinics can be cleaned before the first patient or after the last, and wards can be covered overnight. Night shifts can run alongside your security cover, under the same account manager.
Do private hospitals follow the NHS cleaning standards?
The 2025 standards apply to NHS trust settings. Private healthcare centre cleaning sits under the code of practice on infection prevention, which requires independent providers to resource cleaning and keep clear schedules. The Care Quality Commission (CQC) regulates private hospitals in England and expects their premises to be clean. We can scope your plan to the same six risk categories, a framework your auditors already know.
Where do you provide medical cleaning services?
We provide medical cleaning services across the UK, from Greater London and the South East to the Midlands, the North, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. Every site gets a survey, BS 7858-screened teams and a named account manager.

Before the First Shift
The star rating on the ward door counts everyone's cleaning
Under the 2025 standards, a ward's star rating scores the whole area, whoever cleans each item, so one missed over-bed table lowers the stars for everyone. An area on three stars or fewer goes onto an improvement plan reported to the board.
Experienced estates managers settle who cleans what before the first shift, room by room. That is the first thing we agree with you, so your star rating reflects the work everyone puts in.
