Do School Cleaners Need an Enhanced DBS Check?
Cleaners who work at your school on a regular contract usually need an enhanced DBS check. We arrange the check at the level your school sets, and it is done before the first shift.
You then get written proof for your single central record, the list of staff checks that inspectors look at.
For school cleaning compliance in England, the rules come from Keeping Children Safe in Education 2026 (KCSIE). This guide came into force on 1 September 2026.
It asks schools to check every contractor on site and keep a record.
- Enhanced DBS
- For staff who see children often but do not teach or care for them
- Barred list
- Kept for people who teach or care for pupils
- First shift
- Checks and a site induction are done before it starts
- Same faces
- Low staff turnover, so fewer new names go on your record
Staff who see children often, but do not teach or care for them, need an enhanced check. The barred list check is kept for people who teach or care for pupils, so your cleaners get the right check for their job.
Low staff turnover means the same vetted faces arrive each day. Your office team gets to know them, fewer new names go on your record, and pupils see people they know. Each cleaner also has a site induction before their first shift.

Before and After Lessons
Daily School Cleaning with Rooms Ready Before First Bell
Our teams clean before the school day starts and after it ends, so rooms are ready when pupils arrive.
- Classrooms and corridors
- Washrooms
- Kitchens and dining halls
- Sports halls and changing rooms
- Labs, IT rooms and libraries
- Staff rooms, offices and reception
- Windows
What gets cleaned in each room
Our commercial cleaning services for schools cover every room pupils and staff use:
Classrooms and corridors: desks, chairs, floors, bins and door handles.
Washrooms: toilets, sinks and floors, with toilet roll, hand towels and soap topped up.
Kitchens and dining halls: tables, counters and floors after lunch.
Sports halls and changing rooms: floors, benches and lockers, kept fresh.
Labs, IT rooms and libraries: safe cleaning of shelves, desks and kit.
Staff rooms, offices and reception: the rooms parents and visitors see first.
Windows: glass and frames kept clear, so rooms stay bright.
Term and Holidays
School Deep Cleaning Planned Around Half Terms and Summer
The summer holiday is the one time floors can be stripped, sealed and left to set, so we plan your deep clean before the summer term ends.
Floors need time to set
Sealed floors need time to dry and harden before desks go back in.
Planned room by room around holiday use
The building is rarely empty, either. Holiday clubs, lettings, results days and staff training all use rooms, so we plan the work room by room around those dates.
Smaller jobs that fit into a week
Half terms suit smaller jobs. Carpet cleans, high dusting and a full washroom deep clean fit into a week.
You pay for the work the building needs
Your account manager changes your hours for each holiday, so you pay for the work the building needs at the time.
- Floor stripping and sealing
- Carpet cleans
- High dusting
- Full washroom deep clean
Our advice on agreeing a cleaning schedule with your provider shows how that plan is set.
Management and Accreditation
One Account Manager and a Checked Attendance Record Every Shift
Good educational facility cleaning comes down to management, so your school gets one account manager who knows your site.
A trained backup covers any cleaner who is off.
A record of every shift
Our time and attendance system logs when each cleaner arrives and leaves. That way you can see every shift was covered.

We also hold ISO 9001, the quality standard, so an outside body audits how we work.

SafeContractor approved, with a COSHH assessment for every product
We are SafeContractor approved, so our safety records have already been checked. Every product we use has a COSHH assessment, the safety check the law asks for with cleaning chemicals.

The Accreditations Buyers Check
BICSc, ISO 9001 and SafeContractor Sit Behind the Cleaning Operation
Three accreditations sit behind the cleaning operation. The SIA Approved Contractor Scheme is held on the security side, so it is not a cleaning accreditation and is not presented as one.
Why BICSc is the one buyers ask for by name
It is the training and standards body named in tender documents, so holding it keeps you eligible for contracts that specify it.

What changes the price Five things shape your price.
- The size of your site, including floor area, room count and the number of buildings.
- How often you need us, in days per week and hours per visit.
- Your term and holiday pattern, including any summer deep clean.
- Rooms that need extra care, such as kitchens, science labs and sports halls.
- Whether you want us to supply washroom products.
How to compare quotes What your written quote sets out, and what to check.
In writing
Your quote sets out the rooms, tasks and hours in writing.
On the same terms
That way you can compare cleaning services for schools on the same terms.
Weekly hours
Check the weekly hours in each quote as well as the price, because the hours decide how much of your building gets cleaned.
The price we agree covers everything in your written plan, with no hidden fees.
Contracts include break clauses, so you stay because the standard holds.

What is a deep clean in schools?
A deep clean covers the jobs in a school that need an empty building. That means stripping and sealing floors, washing carpets and cleaning high up. Many schools book a full deep clean in the summer and smaller ones at half term.
Can cleaners work while pupils are in school?
Yes. Most of our cleaning happens before and after lessons, and we can send a cleaner in the day when a room needs a fast clean. Anyone on site in school hours holds the checks your school requires.
Do you clean colleges and universities too?
Yes. We clean colleges and universities, including classrooms, labs, libraries, halls and offices. They get the same vetted teams, the same account manager and the same attendance records as our schools.
Are you insured to clean schools?
Yes. We are fully insured for work in schools, with cover for public liability and for our own staff.
Who has access to our school while you clean?
Only the cleaners assigned to your site. Each one holds the checks your school requires and has had a site induction.
How do we pay for school cleaning?
We invoice monthly. You can also pay by direct debit if that suits your finance team.

One Provider
Cleaning and Out-of-Hours Security from One Provider
Your cleaners are often the first adults in the building each morning and the last to leave at night. So choosing them is a security choice as well as a cleaning one.
At Double Check Security Group, cleaning, key holding and alarm response all come from one company.
