Security Dog Services

Trained Security Dog Teams Across the UK

A security dog service pairs a trained dog with an SIA licensed handler to deter, detect and respond to intruders.

Double Check Security Group provides security dog teams across the UK for construction sites, warehouses, commercial premises, events and vacant property, with every handler licensed by the Security Industry Authority and vetted to the BS 7858 standard.

What Security Dogs Do

What Can a Security Dog Actually Do?

Say guard dog and most people picture something snarling on a chain. A professional security dog is the opposite: calm, obedient and under the control of its handler at all times. What makes it effective is not aggression. It is presence.

On patrol, a dog and handler cover far more ground than a person alone, and a dog's senses can pick up an intruder long before a guard would. The sight of a dog team is enough to turn most opportunists away. If someone does chance it, the handler and dog can locate them quickly and keep the site secure until the police arrive.

Control is the point throughout. Our dogs work to command, stay under the handler's direction and are handled to be safe around your staff and the public. This is security by deterrence, not by force.

Where Dog Security Works Best

Where Do Security Dogs Work Best?

Dog security suits large or high-risk sites where a visible deterrent and wide coverage matter more than a fixed position. Across the UK, we protect construction sites, warehouses and logistics depots, industrial and commercial premises, vacant properties, events, retail sites and private estates.

Sites We Protect

  • Construction Sites
  • Warehouses and Logistics
  • Industrial Sites
  • Commercial Premises
  • Vacant Property
  • Events
  • Private Estates

Construction and vacant sites are where dogs earn their keep. Overnight, when plant, tools and copper are the target and a fence is no barrier, a dog team covers the whole site and deters the theft that static cameras only record.

What Dog Security Services Do We Provide?

Every job is set up around your site, and in practice our dog services cover:

Property and Construction

  • Vacant property protection Dog patrols for empty or awaiting-development sites, providing a strong deterrent against squatters, vandals and metal theft.
  • Construction site security Overnight and out-of-hours cover for active sites, protecting plant, materials and machinery.

Patrol Services

  • Industrial and commercial patrols Regular dog patrols of larger premises, yards and perimeters.
  • Mobile patrol with dogs Scheduled and random patrols across one site or a round of sites, so cover is never predictable.

Events and Guarding

  • Event security dogs Calm, controlled dogs that support crowd safety and deter trouble at events as part of our wider event security service.

For human guards on site, alongside dogs or on their own, see our static guarding service.

Licensed, Vetted and Insured

Are Your Handlers Licensed and Vetted?

Yes. Every dog handler we deploy holds a valid SIA licence (opens in a new tab) and is DBS checked. Each handler is also screened to BS 7858, the British vetting standard covering five years of employment history, references, criminal record and financial background. All are trained in first aid.

Experience backs the licence. Many of our handlers come from security and forces backgrounds, which is part of how we uphold the Armed Forces Covenant. They know how to read a site and handle a dog under pressure.

As a company, we only use SIA licensed dog handlers. We are also ISO 9001 certified, SafeContractor approved and listed in the Infologue Top 100 UK Security Companies. Every deployment is fully insured.

Why a Dog Team

Why Choose a Dog Team Over Guards Alone?

On a large or high-risk site, a single dog team does the work of several guards. One handler and dog patrol a wide area, cover ground faster and present a deterrent that most intruders will not test.

For many sites, that makes dog security a more cost-effective way to cover a big footprint than putting more people on the ground.

A dog team also reaches where cameras cannot act. CCTV records an intrusion, but a dog and handler are there to stop it, on the spot, at the moment it matters.

01 Wider coverage One handler and dog can patrol large compounds, yards and perimeters efficiently.
02 Visible deterrence A trained dog team presents a level of risk that most intruders will avoid.
03 On-site action The team can respond to an intrusion at the site rather than simply record it.

Dog and Handler Welfare

How Do You Look After the Dogs?

A security dog is only as reliable as its care, so we treat welfare as part of the job, not an afterthought. Our dogs get regular veterinary checks, proper rest between shifts and ongoing training to keep them sharp and settled.

Handlers and dogs work as a settled pairing rather than being swapped around. This is better for the dog and better for you, because a handler who knows their dog reads it precisely.

Looking after the animal is not just the right thing to do. It is what keeps the service dependable.

01 Veterinary care Regular checks help keep each working dog healthy, fit and ready for duty.
02 Proper rest Shifts are managed so dogs receive the rest and recovery time they need.
03 Settled partnerships Dogs work with handlers who understand their behaviour, signals and working style.

Dog Security Pricing

What Does Dog Security Cost?

Dog security is priced per requirement because a handler-and-dog team is a different service from a single guard, and sites vary widely. A large construction site, vacant property and commercial estate will each need a different level of cover.

What you pay comes down to a few things

The size of the site and its risk level
How many hours you need and whether cover is overnight or round-the-clock
Whether one dog team is enough or the site needs several teams
Whether the work is one-off, seasonal or part of an ongoing contract

Tell us about your site and we will assess the requirement and provide a clear quote based on the cover you actually need.

Common questions

Common Questions About Security Dogs

Clear answers about safety, deterrence, deployment and how our professional dog teams work.

020 3794 8182

Are security dogs safe around my staff and the public?

Yes. A professional security dog is trained to be calm and obedient, and it works under the direct control of its handler at all times. The dogs are a deterrent, not a danger to the people who should be there.

How effective are security dogs at deterring crime?

Very. For most would-be intruders, the sight or sound of a dog team is enough to move them on to an easier target. A dog also detects a person on site far faster than a patrolling guard, so problems are caught early.

What breeds do you use?

German Shepherds and Belgian Malinois are the most common security breeds, chosen for their alertness, trainability and presence. The right dog for a site depends on the environment and the role.

Can I book a dog team for a one-off or short-term job?

Yes. As well as ongoing contracts, we provide dog security for one-off needs like securing a vacant site, covering an event, or short-term cover while a site is at risk.

Do your handlers work with the same dog each time?

Wherever possible, yes. Handlers and dogs work as a settled pairing, because a handler who knows their dog gets the best and safest work from it.

How quickly can you deploy a dog team?

Often within days, and sometimes faster for urgent situations like a vacant property. Tell us your timescale and we will be straight about what is possible.
