What Static Guarding Is

A guard who just stands at the gate isn't enough

Most people picture a static guard as someone standing by a gate all shift. Done well, it is far more than that. Static guarding means an SIA licensed guard based at your site who patrols, checks, logs what happens and responds when something is wrong.

Those patrols matter. Guards vary their timing on purpose, so anyone watching your site cannot learn the routine and pick a gap. In between, they control who and what comes on and off, keep an eye on the CCTV where they are licensed to, and deal with anything from an alarm to an intruder.

This is the difference between static guarding and a mobile patrol. Mobile patrols drive between sites and check each one briefly. A static guard stays put, so your site is covered the whole time and watched by someone who knows it.

Sites We Cover

Where static guarding earns its keep

Static guarding suits any site where a constant on-site presence protects people, property or expensive kit. We cover construction sites, warehouses and logistics depots, industrial units, business parks, commercial buildings, private estates and data centres across the UK.

Site Types We Cover

  • Construction Sites
  • Warehouses and Logistics
  • Industrial Sites
  • Business Parks
  • Commercial Buildings
  • Private Estates
  • Data Centres

On a construction or logistics site, the real risk is theft of plant, tools and stock, and controlling the gate is where a guard pays for themselves. If your need is a corporate office or reception instead, our corporate security service fits that better.

What Our Guards Do

What your guards actually do all shift

Every guard works to written instructions built around your site, so nothing is left to guesswork. Day to day, that means:

  • Access control

Checking ID, inspecting vehicles, logging visitors, and running the gate so only the right people and deliveries get in.

  • Patrols and monitoring

Regular walks of the site on varied timings, plus CCTV monitoring where licensed.

  • Incident and alarm response

Investigating alarms, handling intruders, and calling the emergency services when needed.

  • Out-of-hours checks

Securing doors, windows and fire exits at shutdown, spotting fire or flood risks, and switching off lights and systems to cut waste.

Everything is logged and reported, so you have a record of what happened and when.

Vetted, Reliable and Yours

Static Security Only Works When It Is the Same Guards

A guard who does not know your site is little better than a camera. The value of static guarding is a familiar person who learns your building, your people and your routines, so they notice what is out of place. Low staff turnover helps us keep the same trusted faces on your site rather than sending a different agency guard each week.

Before anyone works a shift, they are properly vetted. Every guard holds a valid SIA licence (opens in a new tab) and is DBS checked. Each guard is also screened to BS 7858, the British vetting standard covering five years of employment history, references, criminal record and financial background.

Our guarding services also operate in line with BS 7499, the British Standard for static and mobile guarding.

Cheaper suppliers cut these corners. Unvetted, poorly briefed guards who rotate constantly are far less likely to recognise risks, follow site procedures or take genuine ownership of your security.

How It Works

Getting cover in place is simple

There is no drawn-out process. Three steps and your site is covered.

    Book a free site check.

We visit your site or set up a quick call to understand your layout, hours and risks. No pressure, no obligation.

  2. Step 2

    Get a simple plan.

You receive a straightforward proposal covering the guarding, the hours and what each shift includes, priced clearly.

    Cover starts when you say.

Once you are ready, your team is in place, often within days, with regular reporting from the first shift.

Static Guarding Pricing

What Static Guarding Costs

Static guarding is priced around the site itself, not a number that works for everyone. A guard on a fenced compound faces a different job to one controlling access at a busy site entrance, so a few factors set the final figure.

Your quote depends on a few things

Hours needed
How many hours you need, and whether that is a single shift or 24/7 cover.
Guards required
How many guards your site and risk level call for.
Site size and layout
The size and layout of the site, and how much access control it needs.
Type of cover
Whether cover is one-off, seasonal or an ongoing contract.

Site access, patrol routes and key holding all shape the plan. Tell us how your site operates and we will send back a clear, itemised quote.

Why Choose Us

Why site managers stay with us

Covering UK sites since 1998. More than 25 years in the job.

  1. The same guards, not a rotating cast

Low turnover means the guard on your site learns it and stays, so you are not re-explaining your rules to someone new every week.

  2. A direct line to management

No call centres, no hold music. When you need a change or a fast answer, you reach someone who can act, day or night.

  3. You can see the cover is happening

Guard patrol monitoring tracks where and when your site is checked, and regular reports mean cover is something you can verify, not just hope for.

  4. Accredited and proven

SIA Approved Contractor status, ISO 9001 and SafeContractor approval, plus a place on the Infologue Top 100 UK Security Companies.

  5. Fully insured

Full insurance cover sits behind every deployment, so you are protected if something goes wrong.

Common questions

Static Guarding, Straight Answers

Clear answers on what static guarding covers, how quickly cover can start, and cost.

What is static guarding?

Static guarding is on-site security where an SIA licensed guard is stationed at a fixed site to protect it around the clock. The guard controls access, patrols, monitors and responds to incidents, rather than moving between locations.

What is the difference between static guarding and mobile patrols?

A static guard stays at one site for the whole shift, so it is covered constantly and watched by someone who knows it. A mobile patrol visits several sites in a round and checks each one briefly. Static suits sites that need a permanent presence, and mobile suits lower-risk sites that only need periodic checks.

Who needs static guarding?

Sites with valuable stock or equipment, out-of-hours risk, or a history of trespass or theft benefit most. That commonly means construction sites, warehouses, logistics depots, industrial units and commercial premises.

Do static guards just stand still?

No. A good static guard patrols the site on varied timings, checks entries and exits, logs activity and responds to incidents. The fixed position is the base, not the whole job.

How quickly can you start?

Often within days. After a site check, we can usually have a team in place quickly, so tell us your timescale and we will give you an honest answer.

How much does static guarding cost?

Static guarding typically costs between £20 and £30 per hour, excluding VAT. The exact price within that range depends on a few things, including the hours needed, the number of guards, the size and risk of the site, and whether cover is one-off or ongoing. A free site check gives you an accurate, itemised quote.

How much does a static security guard get paid?

Static and site security guards in the UK typically earn between £12.71 per hour, the National Living Wage floor, and around £15.50 per hour for night shifts on higher-risk sites such as construction, reflecting the unsocial hours many static roles involve.
